This November brings fireworks, live entertainment, coastal activities, the Clovelly Herring Festival and the first Christmas events of the year. Whether you're visiting for a weekend or spending a few days at Westbeach One, here's our guide to what's happening in and around Woolacombe.

Bonfire Night in Woolacombe and North Devon

November gets off to a lively start with two fireworks events on Thursday 5 November.

Here in Woolacombe, the Woolacombe Community Bonfire and Fireworks takes place at The Meadow on South Street from 5pm. It's a lovely opportunity to join the local community for an evening out, and you won't need to travel far if you're staying in the village.

Alternatively, The BIG Sheep near Bideford hosts its Fireworks and Bonfire Spectacular on the same evening.

If you're visiting over the following weekend, there's another option. On Saturday 7 November, Golden Coast Holiday Park hosts a Drone Spectacular from 4pm until 8pm. It's a different take on the traditional fireworks display and conveniently located just outside Woolacombe.

You can find further details through the Woolacombe & Mortehoe events calendar.

A Taste of North Devon at the Clovelly Herring Festival

One of November's more unusual events takes place on Sunday 15 November, when the historic fishing village of Clovelly celebrates its annual Herring Festival.

Clovelly has a long association with herring fishing, and the festival celebrates that heritage alongside the food, traditions and community that grew around it.

The event runs from 10am until 3.30pm and makes a good excuse to explore this remarkable village, with its steep cobbled streets, traditional cottages and small harbour.

Clovelly is roughly an hour's drive from Woolacombe, so it's worth making a day of it. Just remember that the walk down through the village is steep, and you'll have to climb back up afterwards!

You can find visitor information and event details on the official Clovelly website.

Autumn Walks at Arlington Court

November is a particularly good time to explore the woodland and parkland around Arlington Court, a National Trust estate near Barnstaple.

On Tuesday 17 November, the estate hosts one of its Guided Wider Estate Walks, running from 10am until 1pm.

This guided hike explores some of the less-visited parts of the estate, taking in ancient woodland, rivers and parkland. The route is approximately five miles and includes steep climbs and uneven ground, so it's better suited to confident walkers.

The walk is free, but booking is essential. You can find out more and book the guided estate walk.

Arlington also offers shorter woodland walks if you'd rather explore at your own pace.

Christmas Begins at Arlington Court

Later in November, Arlington Court begins its Christmas celebrations.

From Saturday 21 November, A Storybook Christmas transforms the house and grounds with decorations inspired by classic children's literature.

Visitors can explore the decorated rooms, follow the outdoor Write Your Own Story Christmas Trail and enjoy the gardens and estate as they move into winter.

The event takes place on 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 November, with further dates throughout December.

You can find out more about A Storybook Christmas.

There's also a Pop-Up Mini Market from 21 to 23 November, organised by the North Devon Handmade Collective. It's an opportunity to browse locally made arts, crafts and gifts while visiting the estate.

See the Arlington Court Christmas programme for opening times and details.

RHS Rosemoor Glow

One of North Devon's most impressive winter attractions returns on Friday 27 November.

RHS Glow at Rosemoor celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026, with a new illuminated route through the gardens and eight new light installations.

Visitors can follow glowing pathways through the Winter Garden, discover illuminated flowers and trees, and explore interactive light and sound displays.

It's quite a different experience from visiting Rosemoor during the day, and the gardens make an impressive setting for the displays.

The November dates are Friday 27 and Saturday 28, with further evenings scheduled throughout December.

You can find out more about RHS Glow at Rosemoor and book tickets through the RHS.

Christmas Shopping and Wreath Making

If you're looking to get a head start on Christmas, there are several smaller local events worth knowing about.

On Wednesday 11 November, Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre hosts a Christmas Shopping Event from 3pm until 7pm.

Later in the month, on Saturday 28 November, Town Farmhouse in Mortehoe hosts a Christmas Wreath Making Workshop.

Mortehoe is just up the hill from Woolacombe, making this a convenient option if you're staying locally.

You can check the Woolacombe & Mortehoe Tourism events guide for further details.

Live Entertainment and Community Events

November also brings several events in and around Woolacombe that are a little different from the usual visitor attractions.

On Friday 6 November, The Barn hosts a Sip and Paint evening, combining painting with a relaxed social atmosphere.

On Saturday 7 November, West Down Parish Hall hosts a Ferret Race from 7pm. It's certainly one of the more unusual events on this month's calendar!

Then, on Saturday 21 November, Woolacombe Village Hall hosts Battle of the Bands, starting at 7pm.

There's also a Coffee Morning and Book Sale at Georgeham Village Hall on Wednesday 25 November.

These smaller events are a good reminder that Woolacombe and the surrounding villages have active communities throughout the year, not just during the summer.

Check the local events calendar for details and any booking arrangements.

Remembrance in Mortehoe

November also brings two services at St Mary's Church in Mortehoe.

On Sunday 1 November, the church holds a Service of Remembrance.

A week later, on Remembrance Sunday, 8 November, there's a further service from 10.30am until 11.30am.

Mortehoe is a short walk or drive from Woolacombe, and its historic church is a familiar landmark in the village.

The Last of the Halloween Activities

The first day of November also provides a final opportunity to enjoy several attractions that began during October half-term.

The Combes Golf Park has the last day of its Pumpkin Patch, while The BIG Sheep concludes its Halloween activities.

At Watermouth Castle, Pumpkins at the Castle also finishes on Sunday 1 November.

If you're arriving in Woolacombe at the beginning of the month, there's still time to catch these events before the Christmas season takes over.

A Visit to Father Christmas

Towards the end of November, The BIG Sheep begins its festive programme with the Father Christmas Experience on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November.

It's one of several Christmas attractions beginning across North Devon as the month draws to a close.

For families visiting the area, it's worth booking ahead as these seasonal events can be popular.

Get Outside: Woolacombe Dunes parkrun

Every Saturday morning, Woolacombe Dunes parkrun continues throughout November.

Starting at 9am near The Porthole on Marine Drive, this free 5K event takes runners, joggers and walkers through the dunes and along Woolacombe Beach.

It's widely regarded as one of the country's more challenging parkruns, not least because of the infamous Dune of Doom, a steep sandy climb that comes towards the end of the course.

But you don't need to be a fast runner to take part. Everyone is welcome, including walkers.

You can find out more and register for Woolacombe Dunes parkrun.

Silent Disco Beach Clean

On Sunday 29 November, the National Trust hosts another Silent Disco Beach Clean on Woolacombe Beach.

Participants meet at Mill Rock at 10.30am for a session running until midday.

The idea is simple: help remove litter from the beach while listening to music through wireless headphones.

It's a rather different way to spend a Sunday morning, and a chance to enjoy Woolacombe's coastline while helping to look after it.

You can check the National Trust's Woolacombe events page for further information.

Something for a Rainy Day

November weather in Woolacombe can be unpredictable, so it's useful to have a few indoor options in mind.

Sense Greater Peace offers regular yoga, Pilates and reformer sessions throughout the month. You can see the timetable and book online.

Every Thursday, Woolacombe Village Hall also hosts Line Dancing at 6.15pm, followed by Dance Club at 7.20pm.

Further afield, RHS Garden Rosemoor continues its Wind in the Willows Garden Trail throughout November. Although the trail is outdoors, the gardens also have indoor spaces and somewhere to stop for refreshments.

You can find out more about the Wind in the Willows Garden Adventure.

Regular Events Throughout November

There are also a few activities taking place regularly, so you don't need to plan your visit around a particular date.

A November Break in Woolacombe

November might not be the first month that comes to mind when planning a trip to Woolacombe, but there's a lot to recommend it.

The beach is wonderfully quiet, the coastal paths are far less busy and the Atlantic can be spectacular at this time of year. Some days are perfect for a long walk in the sunshine, while others are better spent watching the waves before finding somewhere warm for lunch.

Add in fireworks, local events, autumn walks and the first Christmas attractions of the season, and there's plenty to fill a few days.

Westbeach One offers a comfortable base for two right in Woolacombe, with the beach, village and coastal paths all within easy reach. It's an ideal spot for a quieter North Devon break, whether you plan to explore the wider area or simply enjoy having Woolacombe almost to yourselves.
